It is actually as always and thus also quite difficult to compare six such different fans across the board. Every customer has different premises and one wants a lot of luminosity, the other likes it discreetly dark. Loud performance versus soft winds, again the truth lies somewhere in between. Money alone doesn’t score goals, as we all know, and it doesn’t say anything about how well a fan like that performs in certain situations. Therefore, the following results, if you like to call it that, are only a small snapshot
The best case fan?
Let’s start at 100% speed in the normal case without a radiator. If you go purely by the flow rate per used rpm, then the Blacknoise NB-eLoop X PWM B14XP ARGB wins quite clearly. It is ahead of the astonishingly good Arctic P14 , which at an almost shameful 6 euros costs only a fifth. Noctua and Alphacool are still on par here, Cooler Master unfortunately defines the taillight with the Sickleflow.
But what happens if you set the speeds to 1000 rpm each? This is exactly what is now breaking the neck of the low-priced Arctic P14 and it is slipping to the bottom. Bringing up the rear is once again Cooler Master’s Sickleflow, just behind Alphacool’s Eiszyklon.
The best radiator fan
With increasing thickness of the radiator, almost all fans behave significantly different from the unrestrained installation as a case fan. In combination with the actually achieved throughput, a very interesting picture emerges over the individual speed ranges. At full speeds, Blacknoise wins again ahead of Arctic and the Noctua is now the lonely taillight. Maybe we should think about a new reference after all. It’s not too late.
With the speed-limited throughput on the radiator it looks similar, because the first two fans are again the same. Now the Alphacool Eiszyklon loses, while the Noctua NF-A14 looks a little better.
Conclusion
It’s not surprising that out of six fans tested, the most expensive wins. That’s just as it should be. However, the fact that the supposedly cheapest offer ends up in second place is all the more astonishing. A fifth of the price performs almost the same as full price? At least when you put volume and airflow in relation to each other. What the Arctic P14 lacks and of course is also due to the price, is a proper decoupling (you can do it yourself), a better and certainly more durable bearing (there probably only God trust helps in long-term operation) and a little more static pressure on thicker radiators. Whereby the pressure is put into perspective.
To sum it up: Arctic’s P14 is also the top performer and the NB-eLoop X PWM B14XP ARGB is in fact the measure of all things. Despite the criticism of the now for the second time faulty test fans, when it runs it performs like a poked tarantula on ecstasy, but with an acoustic muzzle. The rest of the fans are actually just decoration and there for all those who have any problem with Arctic, Blacknoise and too low or too high prices.
