DDR5 Samsung 16 Gbit B Die (5S16B)
Samsung’s 16 Gbit B-Die can’t really live up to the image of its DDR4 8 Gbit namesake, as we know. Especially at the beginning of DDR5 this die was often present in many kits but disliked compared to Hynix M-Die. The reason for this was immature training algorithms, which often could not enable stable operation even with clock rates as low as DDR5-6000. A few months and improvements by Intel and motherboard manufacturers later, however, the situation has improved significantly and the 5S16B is a valid choice for midrange DDR5 kits with XMP profiles between 5600 and 6000 Mbps.
A Corsair Vengeance DDR5-6000 model with flat timings of 36-36-36-76 at 1.35 V serves as the reference kit for the die. Cheaper kits like this one are a real alternative especially for AMD Ryzen systems, since faster clock rates are not in demand here anyway.
Manually overclocked, the kit with the Samsung 16 Gbit B-Die’s at least manages DDR5-6600 without having to make big compromises in the timings, even though the PMIC is limited to 1.435V. The performance of over 13500 points in Geekbench 3 does not have to hide at all and is almost on the same level as early Hynix M-Die kits.
