Summary and conclusion
The concept of abstracting the performance is nothing new or groundbreaking, but the original purpose of synthetic benchmarks. Unfortunately, these often lose touch with reality or are misused as the sole measurement tool. At least with these 5 titles, the concept seems to work at least once and that makes me confident, also because it will save me some work in the future. In a nutshell, the titles behave as follows:
- Assetto Corsa Competizione: prefers latency, ranking analogous to AIDA64 Latency and Pyprime 2.0 2b, respectively
- Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered: prefers mainly bandwidth, analogous to y-cruncher 2.5b or GB3
- Dead Space (2023): mainly prefers latency, ranking analogous to AIDA64 Latency and Pyprime 2.0 2b, respectively
- Cyberpunk 2077: is indifferent, since our RAM configs are “too fast” and probably “saturate” the engine
- Shadow of the Tomb Raider: the lower the resolution, the more low latency is preferred; the higher the resolution, the more bandwidth is preferred
Since every game title behaves differently and these preferences can be applied to games with the same engine at most, from now on it’s up to you, the community. Benchmarking every RAM configuration in every game is simply impossible for individuals or publications, but if the playerbase collectively finds out what each game prefers, we can, along with the synthetic data from our tests, at least infer subsequent performance.
This way, in the search for the last FPS in the favorite game, you can steer each other in the right direction during optimization or vice versa, perhaps save each other efforts if it is known that the game does not scale anyway. In addition, we can continue our RAM reviews in the usual depth regarding OC potential, PCB layout and cooler design without having to cut back on the quality or quantity of the articles. If you have any suggestions for improvement, benchmark requests, ideas etc., please let us know in the forum. As I said, we will link this post and keep it up to date, e.g. when a new DDR5 IC is released.
