DDR5 SK Hynix 16 Gbit A Die (5H16A)
The second generation of SK Hynix’s 16 Gbit DDR5 dies didn’t really hit the market until late 2022, just in time for the launch of Intel’s Raptor Lake CPU generation. It is essentially a further development of the M-Die predecessor, which supports even higher clock rates due to slightly looser timings. Since the launch of the new A-Die revision, M-Die is found much less frequently in fast RAM kits beyond 6000 Mbps. It is therefore assumed that SK Hynix will only produce the newer die revision and replace M-Die entirely. However, this has not been officially confirmed yet.
As an example kit, we use a naked green OEM model directly from SK Hynix, which could be compared to a “reference design” in graphics cards. There is also only a JEDEC profile with DDR5-5600 and timings 46-45-45-89 at 1.1 V and no XMP profile here. You can find the full timings in the screenshot.
Contrary to the rather low specifications ex-factory, the “Green Sticks” can be overclocked very high, even beyond the 8000 Mbps mark on some boards. At least DDR5-7800 can be operated stably at 1.6 V on the Z790 Hero motherboard. For comparison, just a year ago you were happy to get DDR5-6400 running stably on a 4-DIMM motherboard.
