Fan curve and operating noise (“volume”)
Let’s now turn to what is automatically produced when the waste heat is removed: various fan noises. The measurements in the measuring chamber are, as always, a bit tricky, because you can’t measure anything through the closed side window. so later I’ll manually set the fans to the values I measured while gaming and torturing in the closed case and leave the setup open. The 1050 rpm are almost inaudible. That is quite good for now.
But what does the measurement for the MSI RTX 4070 Ti SUPRIM X 12GB reveal then? I took two measurements, i.e. once the gaming loop and once the stress test under full load. The frequency analysis shows nicely how the speeds change under load. With 32 dB(A) in the gaming loop under 260 watts, none of this is an issue. It does get a bit louder at just under 300 watts in the Torture Test with 35.8 dB(A), although not really loud. Shut up and be quiet.
Coil Whining” Noise
However, we still have to talk about one point and that is once again the annoying coil whining. I already wrote in the measurement of the load peaks that the cards perform an extremely jittery happy dance, which you can also hear. Especially since the coils used are good, but not extra class. I now have a sound recording from the Chamber for you, but I have normalized it a bit. So please do not be frightened! We hear the chirping under load (Horizon Zero Dawn UHD) at a distance of 10 cm from the card (hence the slight wind noise):
