Eyefinity 6 with slight limitations
Due to the limitations just mentioned, the only choice is between 6 monitors as an ultra-widescreen with 11520 x 1080 pixels and a matrix of 3 rows of two monitors each with a total of 3840 x 3240 pixels, which looks a bit awkward in reality. We have therefore initially opted for the solution with 6 monitors in a row:
What looks so easy, however, is not at all, because only a few games and benchmarks allow such extreme overbreadths. We therefore decided on a synthetic and 3 normal gaming benchmarks. We compare the two cards with 3 and 6 GB memory at different clock rates.
First of all, it’s a fact that such a resolution with only one card is definitely not playable, unless you forego all worth seeing details and limit yourself to visual narrow fare. But then the question arises as to the sense of such an effort. At first glance, the Sapphire card is slightly faster at the same clock rate, but it also benefits from the higher memory clock. If you manually reduce this to the level of the Gigabyte card, the differences decrease a bit.
However, we learn from this that the 6 GB individually do not bring much more gain than a slightly higher memory clock. Therefore, you can save this additional expense for the memory, since you will hardly ever use such resolutions with a card. More interesting is the fact that the fixed overclocking to 1201 MHz definitely brought measurable advantages, although we had already described that there was no more clocking back at idle, which then again limits the practical value enormously.
Before the conversion to the matrix of 2 x 3 monitors mentioned at the beginning, we were unlucky when taking screenshots, as one of the splitters had obviously died a lonely heat death. About 30°C in the very well-filled rooms on a very hot summer day didn’t only heat up the two graphics cards. We had to reschedule and continue in parallel with only 4 monitors. For this reason, we unfortunately have to omit the extremely broad snapshots at this point. A repetition in the context of another planned event with a Crossfire test was unfortunately ruled out, because we already had to return the card in a very narrow time window, which is regrettable.
