AMD Threadripper 2970WX and 2920X – the smaller offshoots of the big crunchers

Depending on the application and scalability, either the core/thread count decides the story in favor of the Ryzen thread rippers or against it if the number of threads is limited and everything also depends on the IPC and the memory bandwidth. The Dynamic Mode of the Ryzen Threadripper 2970WX is only partially a help when the one core without a memory controller swells into a bottleneck. This effect is usually seen in single-threaded tasks when the job lands on the "wrong" core.
