Summary for the Watercool Heatkiller V Pro
The cooler tested today is now the fourth (and probably last for now) in this test series, with the chances of more models looking rather poor at the moment. I have asked Aqua Computer and currently they see other priorities, which is really a pity. Many other manufacturers either don’t offer a cooler for the Founders Edition in the first place or have shown little enthusiasm towards proper testing. You can see and interpret that as you like, but I can’t change it for now. It will have its reasons. If any of the readers own a different cooler and want to provide it to a review in advance, we’re happy to do so. PN or mail will do. So the usual.
But back to today’s test. If you take the possible measurement tolerances into account, the water blocks from Watercool, Alphacool and Corsair perform similarly well, with EKWB following with slight reductions. This is surprising, since there is even a price difference of 100 Euros between some products. The around 250 Euros of the three coolers from Watercool, Corsair and EKWB unfortunately follow a trend that cannot be approved of, even though Edeka now offers golf ball-sized cauliflower heads for 4 Euros and more. Is it really necessary to follow this trend of profit maximization so clearly? Made in Germany or not, but the 150 Euros from Alphacool have at least not completely lost touch with reality. Especially since the manufacturer could still be significantly cheaper (original sound), but even so already shows what could go without drifting into the loss zone. But back to the Heatkiller V Pro.
The build quality is very good and solid (except for the slot panel) and the included pads are good and not too thick with the 1 mm. Qualitatively, you are close to Corsair and Alphacool and especially miles ahead of EK. That can happen with the slot bracket (but it should not really), the story with the endless PDF could certainly be easily fixed by the manufacturer. However, I brought the part with the washers on myself, so I changed the conclusion fairly. I can only apologize for that.
Nevertheless, I ask all users not to take it lightly with the metal washers and to take to heart the correct direction when laying them on (thanks to the forum) and the avoidance of canting. Or, you can look for a suitable non-metallic replacement right away, such as the sturdy washers from page three. Theoretically, this is even hardware store goods. In the sum of all four rebuilt screws and newly glued guides, it looks like this. Perhaps Watercool will also reconsider the use of the metallic washers, because the VU is already a bit special.
Conclusion after four tested water blocks
Rarely have so many water blocks been so close together in terms of performance, which of course makes you happy as a customer. If you go by looks, you have a virtually free choice of terminal top or rear, acrylic only or with a black frame, or completely covered and acetal only. So from that point of view, diversity is a given. Opinions differ on the price, and Alphacool’s cooler remains unbeaten in terms of price/performance ratio. Those who would like to have the terminal in the back will find the product with the best GPU temperature at Watercool. If you absolutely need that one Kelvin. The rest is then purely a matter of taste.
With Corsair, you get a qualitatively flawless and solid cooler at a premium price, and with the cooler from EKWB, at least you can’t see through it. In terms of cooling, it is at the end of the tested products, but it is at least visually appealing. Which can’t be said for the price. And so, at the end of the test, we can summarize: There is something for everyone. Even for thrifty people or hobbyists with calluses, who don’t whine about every burr like I do or overlook rubber rings.
Unfortunately, there is no external retailer reference for the Heatkiller V Pro yet, so only the store on the Watercool homepage remains.
