AutoCAD 2024 with the modified Cadalyst benchmark suite
Autodesk AutoCAD 2024 is one of the latest versions of the world-renowned 2D and 3D CAD design tool. It provides architects, engineers and construction professionals with powerful tools to create accurate drawings and models. AutoCAD 2024 came with improved drawing tools, enhanced geometry creation features and detailed annotation capabilities. The software also has improved collaboration features, especially through integration with Autodesk Cloud, making it easier to share projects and work together. Enhanced visualization options allow users to realistically present their designs, and the user interface has been further optimized to speed up workflow and improve the user experience.
AutoCAD has never really been an AMD domain, but as we all know, hope dies last. Once again, NVIDIA cards are very clearly ahead, though it almost doesn’t matter how strong the cards really are within the manufacturer’s lineup. The pictures used here show a predecessor version (2022), but with the same workload, which I have merely adapted a bit to Windows 11 in the script.
Since the cards of both manufacturers are de facto positioned in two closed performance blocks, I rather attribute the problem to the driver this time as well.
Both in 2D and 3D, the AMD cards lose out to the competition. Interestingly, especially the mid-range cards perform very well in both manufacturers, and RDNA2 does not show any weaknesses either.
Partial benchmarks of the Cadalyst
Let’s now take a look at the individual results, where it becomes apparent where AMD’s problems lie. Above all, the 3D performance is clearly worse, whereby the simple shading that AutoCAD uses is not something that really puts the GPU under load. Here the drivers simply MUST be adjusted once, even if I admonish this for 5 years continuously. That one can use AutoCAD also very well on notebooks, AMD should really improve once.
