Important preliminary remarks on all graphics card tests
We are doing the same with benchmarks as in the previous launch test. In the end, there are only 9 specially selected games, but I have chosen these again from over 20 titles and the preliminary tests with several cards as examples, because the result was almost exactly the same in the end. The weighting between the titles with pure raster graphics completely without DXR and with DXR or DirectX12 features was carried out in a ratio of 6:4, whereby the titles and the implementation are very different.
DXR is being implemented in more and more games and almost all current engines now support it. From this point of view, it would be just as unfair to do without it completely as to only use such titles with DXR. As every user has different preferences and some prefer to do without DXR completely (why is that?), I am once again accommodating all target groups, but have tightened the reins a little. DLSS up to version 3.5 and FSR2/FSR3 including frame generation from both providers are now also included.
Total of all games in 1440p
I normalized the FPS and percentiles again and formed a geometric mean (Geomean) because this is simply more accurate from a statistical point of view and is also used in the industry. For those who are obsessed with details: the MSI RTX 4080 Super Expert is a whole 0.4% slower than the Founders Edition in the end. I have simply saved the duplications here and in the following benchmarks. So many metrics for identical performance are completely superfluous.
The RTX 4080 Super takes around 3 percent from the non-Super and is within the range of what could be expected for QHD. However, if the driver advantage in Assassin’s Creed is fairly deducted (see foreword on the first page), then a real lead of around 2.2 percent remains.
In P1, i.e. the Min FPS, the card with the more shaders is suddenly much less ahead. With a good 1 percent, there is not much of a lead left.
The acceptable power consumption in relation to the performance continues here, also in terms of the amount. Because just under 18 watts more is nothing that would immediately drive you to ruin. However, the efficiency does suffer a little.
