Low-Budget Gaming PC 2020 – What do you get for 400 Euros? | Part 1 – Compilation

Memory

The topic of RAM is not negligible and the first two generations of the Ryzen CPUs (1000 and 2000 series) can be massively accelerated by fast memory. After the long-lasting price high, there are currently 16GB kits with fast 3200MHz for under 80€ new to buy. Nevertheless, it is worth looking at the second-hand market, because the overall price for the article should be kept as low as possible. I found a used 16GB kit with 2666MHz, which I could get for 50€.

With slight increase of voltage to 1.35V, it runs stable at 3000MHz. Also for a low-budget project: A kit with two memory bars must be selected so that the advantages of dual-channel operation can be taken advantage of. Given the current prices, one should definitely resort to 16GB, because 8GB are already very limited in many modern games. In the case of clock work, the higher the higher, the better and therefore the fastest kit suitable for the budget should always be chosen. HOWEVER, RAM speeds beyond the 3200MHz are only really interesting for overclocking and high-end systems and definitely not necessary for a low-budget system.

Mass storage – SSD or HDD
?

A mechanical HDD would of course make the most sense in terms of price, because there are hard drives with 1000GB capacity for less than 40€. Personally, however, I strongly recommend an SSD, as these are silent and fast and do not become infinitely slow after a short time. Even if prices are currently rising a bit due to the Corona virus – buy at least a small (120+ GB) SSD for the operating system. The boost by an SSD compared to an HDD makes the system look faster by generations. I use a 1TB SSD to test the system, on which all games and test programs are pre-installed. For the compilation I count a 500GB SSD at the price of 69€ – the choice of the manufacturer is left to the reader.
