Real achievable clock rates and overclocking
The clock rates of the achievable boost again rely on different boost steps for clearly defined temperature ranges. The 15 to 30 MHz more achievable with the “1-Click-OC” and the in-house software are virtually not measurable. Thus, the card stably reached 2745 MHz (blue curve) without further OC, which could also be kept stable in Ultra-HD. With the OC, it is 2760 MHz on average, so hardly an increase.
As expected, the clock rate drops to below 2300 MHz (alternating blue curve) in the stress test.
Temperatures
Thus, in both gaming modes and in the stress test, we see that the GPU temperature is around 62 to 64 °C at maximum, the hotspot is around 9 to 10 Kelvin higher, which is a very decent value. Despite higher waste heat, the card is cooled almost identically, which also means that the fans simply turn a bit higher. However, this is less annoying because it remains pleasantly quiet.
Slight temperature drops then occur in the stress test:
Fan curve and operating noise (“volume”)
Let’s also take a look at what is automatically generated when the waste heat is removed: various fan noises. With an average fan speed of around 1150 rpm, the card is still quite quiet, although not quite as whisper-quiet as the SUPRIM X with air cooling. In return, it is considerably cheaper and even a tad cooler in the end.
During the stress test, the revs increase to around 1320 rpm, while the temperatures hardly increased at all. You can certainly live with that.
The measurement and analysis of the frequency spectrum are quite interesting. The almost 36 dBA in the closed, well-ventilated case are completely acceptable and bearable. We can see that the main part is allotted to the somewhat lower frequency components up to approx. 300 Hz, i.e. engine and bearing noises. Slight peaks visible in the higher frequency range stand for the minimal coil noise, but they are well hidden in the rest of the soundstage. If you listen closely, you can hear them out, but otherwise rather not.
