Packaging and design
The outer carton is kept chic but simple and after cutting the seals we can take a look at the contents. In addition to the waterblock itself with its backplate, for both there are already cut and numbered thermal pads, two G1/4 inch plugs with a mounting aid, thermal paste, screws, an adapter for the RGB connection and the assembly instructions.
The block itself consists of a baseplate made of nickel-plated copper and several arcyl elements that have already been pre-assembled together with screws and sealing o-rings. On the side of the PCIe slot, an RGB strip is integrated into the block, which later floods the block with light from the direction of the mainboard. Speaking of flooding, due to the compact design of the RTX 3090 Founders Edition, the terminals are not on the side as usual, but at the end of the block, virtually opposite the display outputs. This saves even more space in the width, where the RTX 3090 already protrudes well beyond a normal PCIe slot bracket and instead uses the free space of the shortened board, elegant!
On this terminal element, there is also a “GEFORCE RTX TM” lettering with transparent characters embedded in the acrylic, so that it is later illuminated by the RGB LEDs of the block. Their connection cable is fixed to the block and cannot be dismantled in a modular way. But that doesn’t matter, because later there will be enough space between the waterblock and the mainboard to hide the excess cable, connected or not. For power supply the 3-pin 5V standard is used, which is realized on most current mainboards as a 4-pin connector with one free pin. A corresponding adapter also included, as mentioned before.
The backplate is also kept simple, is made of black anodized aluminum and has a recessed Alphacool logo on the bottom right, like the water block. As you can see in the pictures, the backplate is a real fingerprint and dust magnet, but as the saying goes: If you want to be beautiful, you have to clean.
