W1 virtual 7.1 RGB Headset Stand
Another part of the test package was the W1 virtual 7.1 RGB headset stand, which I will only briefly discuss because it doesn’t have that much to do with the headset.
It’s basically an illuminated headphone holder that still has a handy USB hub and a sound chip built in, allowing you to turn any ordinary stereo headphones with a 3.5mm jack into 7.1 headphones. As with the USB sound chip of the headset in question, a virtual 7.1 mode can also be selected here, which then gives the connected stereo headphones the same effect that I mentioned on the last page.
In order not to go beyond the scope of this review, I’ll put the self-explanatory photos in a gallery:
Funny: With the included mini-screwdriver, it is not possible to use enough force to screw the screws into the hard plastic. The fact that the included USB cable was without function (cable break) also does not exactly speak for the best quality. That said, I actually found this thing to be almost the most useful, as the built-in USB hub provides an additional and easily accessible USB port right on the desk.
By the way, EKSA’s website lists the W1 at $55.99 $30.99, while the actual market price is around 25€. This also seems to be the common price for such “gadgets”.
