Microphone
Before I start writing myself into a rage because of the messed up sound, I want to quickly tick off the microphone. This is quite usable, although not perfect, of course. The voice is clearly audible, although a distinct background noise is audible. We have heard much worse recordings from much more expensive headsets.
Voice recording EKSA E900 Pro
Sound
When I played the first songs, I thought I was going to die. It’s clear that the price has to be calculated tightly and not much budget is left for good drivers, but such a sound can not be their seriousness! The treble is so somewhat muffled (i.e. absent) that the vocals sound as if they are spoken through absorbent cotton. Hi-hats disappear almost completely, as if they were not there at all. It’s a mystery to me how S sounds can still be so sibilant despite the muffled tone.
You’ve probably heard what a pair of headphones lying on a table sounds like playing loud music without anyone having it on their head. That’s about what the E900 Pro sounds like out of the box. Pure perplexity, because even a spatial location in the game was virtually impossible.
Low bass is not exactly the headset’s strength without an equalizer, but it does not completely show itself here. The bass is at least a bit punchy when you turn it up to full volume, whereby quite decent levels are reached.
Similar to EPOS with the H3 Pro, but here with much less potential, EKSA unfortunately completely misses the mark with the basic tuning of the E900 Pro. Overall, the EKSA headset massively lacks clarity and resolution, sounds cheap and tinny, and unfortunately plays in the lowest drawer in contrast to the great wearing comfort. I tried to correct that a bit with the included equalizer and came up with the following settings.
This at least breathes some life into the tweeter. Unfortunately, the hissing during sibilants cannot be fixed, which makes listening to messages a bit tiring, for example. It was also possible to get a bit more out of the low bass, which makes the listening experience a bit more dynamic at low volumes. Overall, the settings shown best suited my listening profile, but could only raise the headset’s sound to a level corresponding to the price at most.
