CalculiX is based on a free finite element program for three-dimensional structural calculations and relies on a large core team. Tact goes before cache, we already know that.
Convolution is a benchmark for a subarea of functional analysis in which a new, third function is in fact created as the product of two functions (convolution, convolution). Clock and core count scale equally well here. We already know the picture.
The FFTW test shows: The cores are once again in charge and so is the cache. And how.. well, as long as they are well stuffed with energy. The Ryzen 7 7800X3D wins by a narrow margin over the Ryzen 7 7700X, but still.
The subsurface structure in the earth can be determined by seismic processing. One of the four basic steps in this process is Kirchhoff migration to model an image from the existing data using mathematical operations. However, the benchmark used, including the included calculations, only accommodates AMD to a certain extent despite good parallelization, and the 3D V-cache once again does not bring any advantages.
The Poisson equation is a second-order elliptic partial differential equation that is used as part of boundary value problems in much of physics. And here we see a very interesting exception, because the Core i7-13600K pushes itself to the very end, as in older tests. Obviously, the thread director just had another vacation and Intel also takes a hit, just like the Ryzen 9 7950X3D, which is completely passed by and can only just beat the Ryzen 7 7800X3D. The Ryzen 9 7900X3D, on the other hand, is astonishing.
This workload deals with the processing of seismic data. It implements a Surface-Related Multiples Prediction (SRMP) algorithm written by Evgeny Kurin of GEOLAB Ltd. to remove multiples from seismic data. The Ryzen 9 7950X3D crushes everything here and cache triumphs over everything. With this very conciliatory counterexample, I will end the benchmark run and turn to the power consumption and efficiency next.
