The second new card is called Radeon RX 7900 XT and it still has 84 CUs and 20 GBytes of GDDR6. Everything is connected to a 320 bit interface and we have to reckon with 315 watts of power consumption. And AMD can still do that with the boxes here nicely colorless and full of dark secrets.
And this card also wants us to open our mouths really wide. Shall we? Yes!
After opening, it’s time to get down to business! The card looks a bit smaller, more graceful and unagitated, even if the proportions are of course correct again. However, if the XTX looked rather chubby and like a radiant plus-size model in a direct comparison, you now have the graceful, dark side of the red-front graphics in your eyes (and hands).
Let’s move on to the dimensions: With a length of 27.5 cm from the outer edge of the slot bezel to the opposite end of the cooler cover, the card is even shorter than the XTX (also compared to the GeForce RTX 4090 FE and RTX 4080 FE).
On the top, we primarily see the two 8-pin sockets for the external power supply. The red rally stripe is missing though (a distinction had to be made) and otherwise we still see translucent light bars on the front, but no longer on top. Well, the card is also a bit cheaper.
The height of the inserted card is measured from the top edge of the PCIe slot to the top edge of the cooler cover with 10.5 cm exactly one centimeter lower than the XTX. But even here, the GeForce cards take away even more centimeters, which clearly improves the installation possibilities in the case. We’d better not discuss the bending radii for the power supply connections this time either, because we’ve already had that.
If you now also turn the 1508 gram (medium) heavy card backwards, you will see a similarly heavily pigmented backplate as in the XTX. The design language is also very similar to the XTX, but not the same.
If you now follow the back to the rear, you will see the same closed event with four threaded holes. Various screw connections may then be made here. However, AMD does not provide a real holder in the scope of delivery, although the weight should still be manageable.
The thickness of the card is the same 4.5 cm from the PCB as with the XTX, whereby 0.5 cm have to be added for the backplate. This gives the total width of 5 cm. This is the end of the second Radeon tour, after we quickly took a look at the slot panel (bracket). Tidy variety in full width. With the two DisplayPort 2.1 ports, an HDMI 2.1 jack as well as a real USB Type-C port (hello VR community!), we end the navel-gazing of the two new Radeon cards,
So that’s it for now, the rest will be in the real competition in due course. And as always, after the launch is before the launch, because the green corner will probably soon follow suit and put a cushion underneath. Or lay warming on the XT, as the case may be. Let’s see…
