As we already know, AMD is trying to prioritize GPU temperatures. It should therefore be clear to everyone that this must be at the expense of fan speeds. First, let's look at the averages of the fully warmed up maps for all eight presets:
The resulting fan noises are not from bad parents. Between the lowest clock and our maximum OC there are a whopping 12.3 dB(A)!
We had already commented on the sound characteristics of the fan in the launch article on the Radeon Vega64, but also with the smaller card, the reached levels are above the "Power Save" mode in BIOS 2 beyond the acceptance limit. Worse was the Radeon R9 290X in the reference design, which could exceed the 50-db(A) limit even more clearly.
We now see that the fan with AMD's preset can hardly increase anymore. The result is much higher temperatures, as we have already seen. If the fan speeds in the OC were completely released and set to 100%, we would even break the 60 dB(A) mark. But that's so loud that you have to flee.
Acoustic individual measurements for BIOS 2
For the BIOS 2, too, we have created the order from the most economical (and thus the quietest preset) to the hurricane as a sound spectrum and curve.
