Now let’s look again at power consumption values of the CPU. Once again, the pure package power of the respective SKU was measured across all games and during each individual benchmark run. And we’ll guess, the FPS have leveled up, the power consumption has not. Similar performance with very different thirst at the electricity supplier. Now there are the sober facts and figures.
Power consumption compared to FPS
For a better illustration of the power consumption in relation to the FPS I show again the already known FPS curves and the CPU power consumption in relation to each other. You can now select the same game you want in each of the galleries and then compare these curves.
The trend that Alder Lake CPUs are very frugal continues here very impressively with the i5-12400:
We also see in the sum of GPU and CPU (that belongs together, after all) that the faster CPUs naturally produce higher GPU power consumption.
Efficiency of the CPU in Watt per achieved FPS
Of course, you always have to look at the power consumption in the context of gaming performance. Here I calculated again how many watts you have to spend per second for a single frame and seriously, it’s again a slap in the face for AMD, also and especially for the R5 5600X. That has to be acknowledged without envy.
With that, I’m also done with 1080p and will briefly touch on 1440p and 2160p. So please turn the page once!
