Summary
We were able to take a closer look at a somewhat different case from Sharkoon today. There was also a detailed look at the possibility of installing a custom water cooling system in the Sharkoon REV300. Soft tubing, of course, because it’s easy and more practical when you need to expand something. The installed hardware remained pleasantly cool and quiet thanks to the good airflow in the REV300 and the water cooling.
The components used were deliberately not completely off-the-wall high-end money guzzlers. The AMD Radeon RX 6900XT aside… From my point of view, you can look for cheaper alternatives from the Radeon camp, especially for the GPU. The Green competition is unfortunately quite unattractive in terms of price here. You have to want that – keyword DLSS and ray tracing. If you only configure the PC approximately – without the water cooling, then you are at about 1620 Euros with an AMD RX 6900XT and an NVMe SSD (Kingston NV2 1 TB). However, a CPU cooler of your choice comes on top. Thus, you will end up with about 1,700 euros.
Where you have to be careful is in any case the GPU length. This is because the REV300 only offers space up to a length of 345 mm. And currently, graphics cards are getting more and more enormous, unless you build a water block on top of them, then they are hardly recognizable. One more hint: If you have a graphics card with vaper-chamber, you should definitely upgrade to a water block. Even though I always talk about vertical shoring, it ends up being an upright with connections on top. This will worsen the cooling performance of the vaper chamber by up to 10 Kelvin. You should know that…
Conclusion
The Sharkoon REV300 is a really good case and the customer gets a really good configuration for a price of about 150 Euros. The workmanship is top, no sharp edges and well thought-out with many cutouts for the necessary cables. If you consider that you can install a 420 and a 360 radiator in the rather small case – without any problems. Not necessarily still need to buy fans, and you get Y-PWM cable as well as aRGB HUB.
Yes, the installed fans are airflow-oriented and really quiet. On a thick radiator, however, you should look for other fans. In my opinion, you need max. 30 mm thick radiators here, because the 780 mm cooling surface is insane. The Alphacool components are outstandig and I can always recommend them. If you want to build a custom loop, you know where to find the good stuff. And you now also know an extravagant case – the Sharkoon REV300 has justly earned a purchase recommendation. Especially for those who prefer to put their PC on the left side of the desk and are looking for a case – away from the mainstream.
Do you have to install a custom water cooling system? No, of course not. From my point of view, however, the REV300 offers the best prerequisites for this. If you install the components I used, you end up with another 600 Euros surcharge. (with GPU water block you end up with over 700 Euros) If you rebuild the PC roughly, you end up with about 2,300 to 2,500 Euros. However, you will have the cooling for a very long time and only replace the GPU block if necessary. There will still be adapters for the CPU for future sockets. Thus, this would be a long-term investment.
Regarding the monitor and peripherals, another 500 to 600 Euros are added on top. Depending on the desire also significantly more. That would then be an approx. 3,000 euro setup and thus definitely no longer a price-performance PC. But that wasn’t today’s topic either. Yes, I couldn’t hold back and somehow the planned case review escalated a bit – in a positive sense… Oops
Anyway, the star of the day is clearly that Sharkoon REV300. If you buy the case, it’s up to you what you put in it. It is certainly cheaper. But the same performance? Difficult… I hope that I could give some of you some ideas for your own WaKü project. I wish you all a very Merry Christmas!
My thanks go to Sharkoon and Alphacool – for providing the hardware. In particular, I thank Pascal for testing the fans –> gives a bee in the mommy booklet.
The Sharkoon REV300 as well as the Silent Storm 850 Watt power supply – was provided to me by Sharkoon for the test. No influence or compensation for expenses was exercised. The remaining components are mostly from my private or test stock (MSI motherboard, Alphacool Custom-Loop).
