Stress tests in detail: Test CPU and overall system correctly (Tutorial – Part2)

OCCT also offers a rather demanding GPU stress test and is overly often and wrongly misunderstood. You don't reach the big heat waves like Prime95 with AVX, but OCCT is always a very good choice for longer-lasting test runs. The program also offers a log function of the most important parameters and can be used both as an infinite loop and with a fixed runtime. The free tool can be found here.

OCCT with "Small Data Set"

This option generates the highest load of all four possible test scenarios, but is still well below the values of Prime95 with AVX and "Small FFTs". The memory is also charged much higher than prime85.

Review – high package temperature for stability tests
– high storage temperature
– mean power consumption of CPU and overall system
Suitability – Long-term stability tests
– Memory tests in case of overclocking

OCCT with "Big Data Set"

The total load generated is now significantly lower, but makes the test particularly interesting for notebooks, which are not necessarily intended to run into the thermal limitation. What is even more interesting is that the memory load exceeds the values of all variants possible in Prime95 and was in the end even the second highest of all tested tests.

OCCT "LinPack" with AVX

Although the AVX implementation generates a high total load, it is below that of the small dataset pass in the OCCT's own load test. The storage load is still quite high.

OCCT "LinPack" with SSE

The SSE implementation generates a similarly low overall load as the "Big Dataset". Even if this variant does not strive for maximum values at first, it is also a good alternative for smaller devices (especially with boxed coolers) as well as notebooks and is very suitable for a long-term run, which can also take 24 hours.
