Stress tests in detail: Test CPU and overall system correctly (Tutorial – Part2)

The power consumption gives us a new insight into what is converted into waste heat in the respective combination. For an extreme test of cooling and power supply, only the combinations with Prime95 and AVX are recommended, for which the two variants with the MSI combuster for CPU + GPU and also the Program OCCT with the "Power Supply" test.

The same applies to the graphics card if you look at it individually. Pure stress test in the mix with Prime95 including AVX and the MSI combuster, as well as OCCT.

With the total value for the system with all components, we see that the maximum achievable values in our configuration can be almost 100 watts above what you would expect in normal gaming. This difference is, of course, mainly due to the fact that the Intel Core i7-8700 approves so much electrical power on this motherboard for the AVX-based stress test.

If one now looks at how much residual energy is "disappearing", i.e. is also converted into heat in the system, the expected picture emerges. Especially the voltage transformer losses increase neatly, so that at such extremes one should also pay attention to the quality of the VRM coolers and a sufficient airflow in the housing.
