Summary
The MSI Modern MD272QP comes with a viewing angle stable 1440p 75 Hz IPS panel from HKC Digital. It comes with all the necessary office ports. Thanks to its various adjustment options (height, swivel, tilt), you should be able to find the optimal position on your desk. The fact that the monitor is only at home in the sRGB color space does not bother at all from my point of view. (Of course, if you’re looking for Adobe RGB, you probably turned it off long ago.)
The missing cables – DisplayPort and especially the USB-C cable – tarnish the otherwise quite good impression of the monitor. I personally think that the lack of a webcam and microphone is a bad decision for an office monitor. Of course, the absence of a webcam and microphone can be overlooked if the price is right. But: If you install a KVM switch, which I find highly praiseworthy, then a USB-C cable is a must in any case. Out of the box, the feature cannot be used at all. You are forced to buy a cable again. USB-C has not yet found its way into every household.
Conclusion
I was a bit surprised by the color performance of the MD272QP in Eco mode (without factory calibration). That was a solid performance. It delivers the promised 1000:1 contrast. However, the panel also comes with a few flaws, we have to be honest. These are not a killer, but the deviations in ColorChecker and Saturation regarding red and blue are already very high. Likewise, it seems that the sRGB mode was pushed into the panel on a Monday. That one went completely in the pants. That may also be due to my sample, that may well be. I can’t verify that. Fortunately, the Eco and User modes deliver a solid basic performance.
If you have a SpyderX and DisplayCal or even Calman Ultimate, you can turn the solid – a good to very good performance. Calibrate! So, putting everything on a scale from my point of view, I come to the following conclusion. The MSI Modern MD272QP is by no means a bad office monitor. Unfortunately, the current street price does not match the overall package. Missing cables, webcam and microphone – and the customer is supposed to pay a hefty 349 € for that? Doesn’t sound like much at first. However, you can currently get the Gigabyte M27Q, which also has a KVM switch and comes with far more features – for the same money. (Note: the M27Q has a BGR subpixel layout, but otherwise a no-brainer for the price)
Should the price of the MD272QP fall below the €300 mark, then the monitor would be a recommended buy for the home office or even as a secondary monitor for gamers, streamers, etc.
