Summary and conclusion
With a total of 10 cores, of which only 2 are P-cores and 8 are E-cores, the i5-1335U achieves a total of 12 theads and ends up in the midfield in our ranking. Although the built-in SSD is one of the fastest I have tested in these benchmarks so far, the bottleneck is elsewhere. Click here for the big overview:
Battle of the dwarfs: Mini-PC benchmark comparison and overview of all models tested so far
In fact, the Z5 Plus is one of the few mini PCs where the storage space cannot be expanded with a 2.5″ drive or an additional M.2 SSD. Given the really robust external connection options for this size, I’m a little surprised.
The tool-free M.2 holder is so practical that I would have liked a second one. In terms of space, however, it would probably have been very tight, at the latest a 2.5″ bay would have made the case noticeably larger. You can see this clearly on the LIVA Z5E PLUS, which offers this option among others.
The actual availability of this mini PC in Germany is planned for March 2024, and unfortunately the prices that were communicated in advance surprised me negatively. The barebone version is said to cost €682.90, while the version tested here today with 16GB RAM and a 256GB PCIe 4.0 SSD costs €757.90. For such a high purchase price, I unfortunately see no room between the other offers on the market. We can only hope that the price trend will be similar to that of its predecessor, the Z3 Plus. This entered the race at just under €550 and was last available for €199.
