The IPS panel (sRGB)
The built-in IPS panel, whose manufacturer is unfortunately unknown to me, makes a solid impression. Unfortunately, it can’t particularly shine when it comes to the topic of color space coverage. The customer has to live with sRGB. The other color spaces, e.g. Adobe RGB, offer too little coverage to be able to work color-critically with it. From my point of view, this is not a big deal if you are only in the sRGB/Rec. 709 range anyway. Most streamers will probably be. So much in advance. Let’s take a look at the gaming suitability first.
Response times and overshoot
We are dealing with a 240 Hz panel, so the response times should be in the four millisecond range. The lower the refresh rate, the higher the response times should be. Since Corsair does not allow access to the panel, there is also no possibility to set a pixel overdrive. The tension increases:
Response Times
The panel is advertised with 3 ms, the measurements unfortunately show something completely different. From my point of view, the panel should have been given a refresh rate of 144 Hz, because the 6 ms are sufficient for this on average. Beyond 144 Hz, there is slight ghosting because the response times of the pixels cannot keep up with the refresh rate.
Overshoot
You don’t have a problem with overshoot. I’m convinced that the panel could have been pushed a bit harder and a variable overdrive could have been implemented. Corsair can still work on this point.
Latencies
With my measurement technique, I unfortunately can’t measure the display lag (processing + refresh lag) on the laptop. But the E2E latency, and that is the most important at the end of the day anyway.
Measured with LDAT on average from 200 measurements = 9.5 ms at 240 Hz and 240 FPS.
That is very good – for a rather slow IPS panel. Please note that this measurement does not take into account the bounce/de-bounce time (LDAT triggers the start signal itself – no mouse click required) and only half the response time. This is also how I measure all monitors!
