Writing sensation
There are no big surprises at this point. The Cherry MX Red switches are well known and can be found in almost all gaming keyboards.
I recently got to know and love the feel of the new PBT keycaps in a review.
The red Cherry MX still represent the optimal switches for gaming for me. I had the MX Speed buttons in the old K70 Rapidfire in use for a while for comparison and actually had slight problems with them as well. The premature triggering of the MX Speed often led to “missteps” in games and the short stroke feels a bit unnatural when typing. I prefer the red Cherry MX, although I still prefer the blue tactile switch for typing. Overall, however, the keyboard is also good for writing, no question about that.
The larger keys (Space, Shift, Enter, Backspace, …) are very well damped on the new K70 and thus much quieter and more stable than on the old model, which is why you can hardly hear the normally so concise noise of the space bar in the sound files.
Soundcheck
Of course, I took the usual pictures of the K70 again, because they say more than 1000 words. I immediately noticed one thing that the old and new models have in common when typing: Both keyboards sound a bit “springy”, so you can hear the spring of the switches reverberate relatively loudly, which I have never noticed so clearly with other manufacturers.
Normal writing:
5 x spacebar, 5 x backspace and 5 x enter
Operation of the volume control and multimedia buttons
Operation of the special keys
