Conclusion
To a large extent, Corsair has definitely achieved the goals of the HS65 Surround. The headset is very comfortable, pleasantly light on the head and has extremely generously sized ear cups. Thus, you can definitely wear it comfortably for a long period of time and it also does not heat up the ears significantly. There is hardly anything to criticize about the construction itself except for the rather stiff and somewhat short cable. Everything feels high-quality, nothing creaks or cracks, which is unfortunately still not a matter of course for headsets under 100€ nowadays.
While the microphone does a pleasingly good job, I was very curious about Igor’s professional assessment of the sound, whereby our conclusion then coincided. Without an equalizer, I also found the sound with the USB solution to be a bit muffled and generally not very precise – especially in the low bass range. At least Corsair does not overdo it with overemphasized frequencies in the speech range, which very often ruins the sound of such “gaming headsets” in my opinion. The iCUE equalizer can be used to correct the sound a bit and adjust it to personal taste, but “doing it yourself” is still a step ahead of the automatic optimization via SoundID. You can use the whole thing quite well for gaming, but it’s really nothing for music.
Overall, the headset makes a solid impression haptically and visually, although it would have been better for the device if they had invested a bit more effort in tuning the original sound and a better and more powerful USB sound solution instead of implementing the pseudo-surround story, which is useless for me, so that it would then also be more level-proof. Overall, this is certainly not a bad product, but it left me a bit perplexed in a few areas.
