Of course, it doesn’t always have to be the fastest and most expensive RAM kit when the next cheapest alternative enables almost the same performance and can even hold a candle to significantly faster kits in XMP with a bit of manual tuning. Unfortunately, DDR5 as a new standard is still in a market situation where so-called “entry-level” products are still significantly more expensive than the older and not significantly slower DDR4 standard.
But prices are known to be in flux and especially with DDR5, the chip shortage seems to be behind us for now. Not least because of such kits as the T-Force VULCAN, which are still a valid alternative for gamers and hobbyists with the unfortunately not so overclocking-friendly Micron RevA ICs. Because even if the final maximum clock rate of DDR5-5400 doesn’t look exhilarating, the performance is all the more respectable with optimized timings on the level of 6000 C40 XMP kits.
To be fair, it should also be mentioned that the silicon lottery always plays a role in RAM, too, and our special sample might be a below-average example for this. So if you are looking for a relatively inexpensive DDR5 kit – whether today or in a few months when the prices have fallen further – you will find a solid alternative in a simple design for the smaller wallet or limited installation space in the T-Force VULCAN modules.
