Results AMD AM5 – Ryzen 9 7950X
There are significantly fewer data points on AM5 because all blocks here use the standard AM5 backplate for mounting and therefore a large variable is removed from the cooling performance equation. The positioning of the water block above the CPU is also interesting here, as the silicon dies are not positioned centrally under the heatspreader, but a little further “south”. This is exactly where the first two positions in the diagram come into play, as the water block is mounted with a corresponding offset in both the AM5 performance kit for the Alphacool Core 1 and the Ryzen 7000 conversion kit for the Aqua Computer cuplex kryos NEXT. For comparison, the Core 1 without the performance kit performs approx. 2 K worse.
Behind it is the Watercool Heatkiller IV Pro, back by approx. 3 K. The Corsair XC 7 RGB Pro is again in the midfield, about 4 K behind the top. The EK-Quantum Magnitude was again installed according to the manufacturer’s specifications – with more contact pressure, it could probably get a few more K out of AM5, if the screws would hold. Fortunately, the Thermaltake Pacific SW1 Plus uses different standoffs on AM5 than on LGA1700, so that assembly and disassembly is easy. But unfortunately the performance here is rather sobering. The Alphacool Eisblock XPX Aurora again brings up the rear. The jump from the old to the new Alphacool design on AM5, as well as on LGA1700, is a real 7 K (at 280 – 300 W waste heat).
Hottest and coolest core
The P vs. E-core metric is of course not applicable here, but we can also compare the hottest and coolest core on AM5. Here, this metric seems to be based a little more on the average temperature.
Flow rates
The flow rates are effectively identical to LGA1700, as the internal water blocks are the same. The measurement tolerance here is approx. 2.5 l/h, which is sometimes measured more and sometimes less. The water temperature also plays a role here, as warm water has a lower viscosity and flows faster. So while we effectively subtract and thus eliminate the water temperature in the performance evaluation, this is not so easy with the absolute metric of the flow rate. On the other hand, the aim here is to compare the water blocks with each other and their flow resistance and this can be read off in any case.
