XPG Summoner – Softwareless at premium price

ADATA XPG first tries out a mechanical keyboard with original Cherry switches, does not need to adapt to software and wants to cover all preferences with MX Speed Silver, Red and Blue. Recipe for success or lukewarm broth?

Lighting & Effects

The RGB LEDs of the switches can be dimming in 3 stages or can also be switched off completely.
In addition to the static monochrome lighting in the different colours, 6 other effects are stored:

  • Breathing – All tests change continuously from no lighting to maximum brightness
  • Trigger – The pressed button lights up in the currently set color and then fades out
  • Explosion – A "wave" emanates in all directions from the pressed button
  • Color Cycle – Color change of all buttons by all colors
  • Color Wave – Color change in waves from left to right
  • WASD Mode – Lighting the standard gaming buttons such as WASD, Q+E, 1 to 5, Ctrl

Conclusion

The final verdict on the XPG Summoner was really not easy for me, as it has appealed to me in almost all aspects and I really like it. For me personally, the typing feeling is excellent and the (albeit somewhat slow) USB port on the keyboard has been very suitable for my SD card reader as well as radio receiver of the mouse.

Unfortunately, however, I am one of the people for whom the Windows button is essential in everyday life. Not being able to use this after adjusting the color for the rest of my setup would be a reason not to buy it. If the valued reader does not share my penchant for the Windows key, prefer red over other colors or use only the Color Cycle, Wave or WASD mode anyway, I highly recommend this keyboard! Especially because the price of the keyboard, from the initial 130 euros, has fallen sharply.
