Next up is the polygon test. Some of the test candidates again show various weaknesses here.
Contents of the test
A total of 60,000 polygons are rendered with a random number of points between 3 and 30, outline pen and optionally changing fill color or unfilled at a random position. The initial value for the random generator is always identical, so that all test runs always show the same content. All objects are located within the drawing area, so no clipping is needed.
Used GDI functions
for the pure polygon benchmark:
- CreatePen
- CreateSolidBrush
- GetStockObject
- SelectObject
- DeleteObject
- Polygon
additionally for DIB buffer (test with buffering):
- CreateCompatibleDC
- CreateDIBSection
- Rectangle
- BitBlt
Direct drawing without buffer
Drawing with buffer
Conclusion
If you buffer the content, it doesn’t matter whether you draw with or without Aero. The computer equipped with the Atom CPU is again not equipped for polygons, no matter whether with or without buffering. Especially the expensive cards break away when drawing directly. ATI really has to ask itself whether the affected cards suffer from work denial when Aero is enabled. The GTX285 also holds its own against the GMA 940 and Atom and even has to admit defeat to a G45. Plenty of thin ice for the graphics cards of the upper class of both manufacturers.
