Summary
An IPS-type gaming monitor with very few weaknesses and good build quality. The scope of delivery is excellent and the performance is also convincing as I have been used to from ASUS. A sleek ultrawide design paired with all sorts of gaming bells and whistles and KVM switch.
The only real weakness is the lack of HDR hardware. Not even edge-lit dimming was installed. ASUS actually shouts with the price: We can do HDR! I was actually expecting a FALD mini-LED backlight. That would have at least been a justification for the price. After all, you can already get OLED monitors in this price range. ASUS follows MSI’s bad example in this case; the MEG381CQR Plus was just as outrageously expensive in proportion. A buy recommendation for the XG349C is unthinkable at this price!
Conclusion
A technically flawless product. The performance fits: Good motion clarity, very good sRGB mode and also an offer for P3 users. The ASUS ROG XG349C has only one problem: the price! The current price is around 1,050 euros. Grrrrr, that makes me shiver. If you add another 150 Euros, you get the AW3423DWF QD-OLED. The Alienware then plays in a completely different league than the XG349C. In other words, the XG349C plays in the regional league and wants to sell its tickets on Champions League level. It doesn’t fit…
Who buys this monitor, does not buy a bad product! In fairness, this must also be noted. You just spend way too much money. Therefore, I would like to ask ASUS to take a closer look and not to scare away potential buyers. After all, Christmas is coming soon and you want your Christmas money to be well invested. From my point of view – measured by the feature set and the performance shown – the price should be in the 700 euro range.
In this sense… Merry Christmas to you all and in case you don’t read each other anymore, also a happy new year… The greeting also goes to the colleagues from ASUS ROG!
The monitor was provided to me by ASUS ROG without obligation – for testing purposes. There was no influence on the tests and results. There was also no compensation for expenses and no obligation to publish.
