Fan curve and operating noise (“volume”)
Now we come to what is automatically generated when the waste heat is dissipated: various fan noises. As always, the measurements in the measuring chamber are a bit tricky, because you can’t measure anything through the closed side window. That’s why I switched off the case fans and set the AiO to the absolute minimum. Then they are just about drowned out by the noise of the Sapphire Radeon RX 7900 GRE Pure 16 GB. I normally do this with a silent system in the chamber, but I didn’t want to deprive you of the tiny coil whine or the slightly fluctuating regulation of the card.
Let’s first look at the fan curves and we’ll understand why I couldn’t measure this with an adapted fan speed in the chamber. Because here again we see an extremely jittery curve that reacts very nervously to all load changes. The manufacturer could make improvements here, because you can definitely notice it
But what does the measurement show for the Sapphire Radeon RX 7900 GRE Pure 16GB? The frequency analysis shows how the fan speed changes very slightly (motor peak in the low frequency range), so that the operating noise is a from-to story, which is an excellent 31.6 dB(A) in the middle of the long-term measurement (SPL Slow). That really is ultra-quiet.
Coil noise: “Coil whining” and audio sample
However, there is one point we still need to talk about and that is the annoying coil whining. I already wrote in the measurement of the load peaks that the cards usually perform an extremely jittery dance of joy, which you can then also hear. In the case of the card, almost nothing was actually audible, which proves once again that you can win the coil lottery. I have an audio sample from my chamber for you, which I had to amplify slightly so that you can hear anything at all.
