Summary
In order to do justice to the EVGA GTX 1080 Ti FTW3 Gaming, we have to take a little further. After all, EVGA has shown courage and has not simply blindly followed the current trend towards ever thicker cards. This makes it possible to occupy a kind of niche, because apart from the Founders Edition, there are currently hardly any respectable dual-slot cards to buy as GeForce GTX 1080 Ti. Which would have brought us to the physical limits of such a design, which EVGA, of course, cannot overturn. But you can at least get close to them and this is exactly what EVGA has done well with the GTX 1080 Ti FTW3 Gaming.
Of course, it would also be quieter, cooler and in the end certainly faster, but then the card would also have to increase neatly at the abdominal circumference. But the manufacturer did not want these bacon rolls and so we have to take the design into account in the conclusion. It is much better to build a narrow map.
The card has a medium overclocking potential, but this is due to the cooler. With a real water block, much more would be possible here, of course, also due to the possible power target of 350 watts and the good power supply. But then the final result would again be in the hands of the GPU lottery fee. However, there is no question that there is still a good thing. In any case, it should not fail on the board or firmware.
We like the special solution with the sensor-controlled fans, especially since the temperature sensors are also a paradise for control freaks. From this point of view, it is the feature list, which together with the cooling just described is also the reason for our purchase tip. So far, each of the tested cards has had its own special characteristics, which will certainly make the target group happy. So it is here. A little niche, but convincing enough.
Conclusion
The card has potential and, due to EVGA's tolerant handling of water cooling conversions, certainly also has the chance to become one of the favorites for this particular target group. If you also find little space in the depth in the case, or absolutely need dual-slot cards for an SLI, you are well advised here, because the search will surely come to an end. If it should and must be a GTX 1080 Ti.
