The FPS performance gains with DLSS compared to FSR
Now let’s literally drop our pants and look at the sheer FPS increase you can conjure up on the screen with NVIDIA DLSS or AMD FSR. To clarify this for you, I went with 1440p resolution and higher FPS numbers, which UHD is not yet as prevalent among gamers of faster genres. As we all know, DLSS only works with NVIDIA RTX cards, so I decided to go with the RTX 3080 FE for now. Since AMD guarantees a much larger support of graphics cards, even up to the performance regions of NVIDIA, this point is also clarified. Let’s give Necromunda Hired Gun a run for its money.
Let’s take a look at the game settings in detail. I have linked these to you as a short video here.
These “basic settings” were not changed throughout the test, so the conditions were always the same. What I did change, however, were the respective quality levels of DLSS and FSR. To measure the FPS increases comparably, I did a small test run. All DLSS and FSR levels as well as the native performance of the RTX 3080 FE were determined this way. Also for this I have a little video for you. Quasi 2x back and 1x run!
So now that it’s clear how I measured performance in FPS etc, we can look at the usual slides.
Starting at the Quality level, FSR takes the FPS crown. But it must also be said that the differences are measurable, but not really noticeable. I for one don’t see any difference between 241 FPS and 254 FPS, the gap is way too small for that! In the end, what is the most important thing for us players? More power! Both technologies provide us with significantly more FPS. In the case of FSR, it’s almost a FPS doubling in the best case! That’s really impressive what DLSS and FSR fire on the monitor here. I’ll leave you with the other detailed slides for a moment.
So, here I am again. In the variances, we see a heavy red spot in terms of NVIDIA DLSS performance. Here it came to a short violent jerk in the game. You can also see this in the frame time. There it spiked times correctly upward, so that I did not want to represent it consciously, otherwise one would recognize on the foil nothing more! Why it comes to the jerky, I can not tell you. It’s no big deal. Ok, we’ve brushed off the FPS metrics at this point.
I would also like to point out that these figures should only be considered for the test area. They are not representative of the whole game at this point, but give an idea of what to expect from DLSS or FSR! Since some of you are probably already scratching their heads to find out what graphical details are left behind by all this performance, let’s move on to the next page.
