DDR-RAM Practice Reviews System

Not just a visual eye-catcher – Corsair Vengeance RGB RT 2x 16 GB 3600 CL18 Kit Review with Overclocking and Teardown

Since the kit is specifically and only optimized for AMD platforms, our review today is also limited to these, not least for time reasons. Of course, you can also use the Vengeance RGB RT modules on Intel platforms and run them in the Gear1 with a 11900K for example, but this would be a rather suboptimal and unusual combination. As always, you can find the entire test hardware in the following table:

Test systems
Hardware:

The previously tested G.Skill TridentZ Neo 3800c14 kit, also as 2x 16 GB dual-rank variant, serves as reference for the performance tests, both in the XMP configuration and with maximum stable overclocking. With Samsung B-Die as the de facto performance standard for DDR4 on current AMD Ryzen platforms, this makes for a really tough test for the new Corsair Vengeance RT modules. Especially the price-performance ratio will be interesting here, because it should be said in advance: The high-end G.Skill kit costs with about 350 Euro about twice as much as the Corsair kit does.

As a reminder, here is the fastest config of the control kit with its timings again for you to skim through. Of course, I also retested all the benchmarks again with the motherboard and BIOS listed above:

As usual, some abbreviations have been used in the diagrams for better readability, which are explained below with examples:

  • 3600c18: Specified clock rate DDR4-3600 or 3600 Mbps with 1800 MHz and tCL timing 18
  • 3800 18-22-21-40: Operated clock rate DDR4-3800 with primary timings tCL 18, tRCD 22, tRP 21 and tRAS 40
  • GDM: Command Rate with 1 tick and Geardown-Mode on the AMD platform with even tCL timing
  • 1:1: Translation on the AMD platform between memory controller clock (UCLK) and main memory clock (MCLK)
  • C-Die, B-Die: Memory chips installed on the main memory modules – Samsung 8 Gbit C-Die or Samsung 8 Gbit B-Die
  • 5950X: CPUs used on the test platform – AMD Ryzen 9 5950X
  • *: manually set subtimings, see screenshots for details
