Restoration of the original circuit
Of course, we also want to test what happens when the TL431 is wired as it really needs to be, so we replace the capacitor with a bridge, which would also restore the trace. The VDD input of the RT8802A is now exactly 5.0 volts. First, we compare the GPU core voltages provided by the chip under load:
Before, with too high operating voltage:
After the conversion with regular voltage:
The difference is clearly visible and not bad at all. Finally, we will test what effects the regular wiring has on the boost rates and even apply 100% load this time.
Boost tamed, card slower but stable system startup
We can see that the boost clock decreases very visibly under load (green curve), which also has a direct impact on the actual performance and overclockability. We will endeavor to test both official variants of the card at a later time, but in all fairness, we do not want to anticipate any benchmark results with a custom conversion. The boost clock alone should already be informative enough.
