Fan curve and operating noise (“volume”)
Let’s now turn to what is automatically produced when the waste heat is removed: various fan noises. The measurements in the measuring chamber are, as always, a bit tricky, because you can’t measure anything through the closed side window. so later I’ll manually set the fans to the values I measured while gaming and torturing in the closed case and leave the setup open. The approximately 860 rpm in the gaming loop are virtually inaudible and absolutely top class. In the stress test it is then 980 to 990 rpm, which is also still perfect.
But what does the measurement for the operating noise show then? You can see nicely from the frequency analysis how the sound carpet splits up. With 31.1 dB(A) in the gaming loop and 212 watts in Cyberpunk 2077, none of this is an issue, even though we can again see the harmonics of minimal coil and capacitor buzzing in the range from about 4.5 KHz, but this only occurs at high FPS rates or heavy load changes.
It is a tiny bit louder in the stress test, but even that is nothing to make you lose your mind; it is still whisper-quiet.
“Coil Whining”
Therefore, we still have to talk about one point and that is, as always, the coil whine. This is handled quite well on the MSI RTX 4070 Gaming X Trio, and I wouldn’t mention it if the fans weren’t so quiet. The fan noise completely covers the voltage converter from about 1100 rpm. That’s a good thing. I first tapped the sound sample as a non-normalized file from the measurement microphone:
If you didn’t hear anything now and therefore turned up the volume, please turn down the volume control a bit, because I normalized the sound to – 1 dB:
