Real achievable clock rates and overclocking
The clock rates and the readout are simple this time. While the GPU clock of the card is at 2910 MHz in cold state, it then levels off three boost steps lower at 2880 and later at 2850 to 2865 MHz more or less alternating after complete warming. You can definitely leave that alone. Without raising the power limit, the card still ran stably at 3 GHz. It also goes up to just under 3.1 GHz by pushing the TBP limit of 240 watts, but the card already becomes a bit unstable then.
GPU temperatures in the case
The differences are not as big as feared if you use a decent case. If you close the panel, the GPU temperature (Edge) increases by 2 Kelvin, the GDC hotspot increases by up to 4 Kelvin. Nevertheless, the rates of around 60 °C (Edge) and 72 to 73 °C (Hotspot) are nothing to be scared of. With OC, the values rise to a rich 65 °C and 77 °C (hotspot), respectively, which still fits perfectly, but also shows that the efficiency’s zenith has been clearly exceeded.
Infrared measurements (heat flow analysis)
Let’s start with the gaming loop and we see that the voltage converters only get warm, but not really hot. The 9 phases are 9 phases now and we remember the teardown and the VRM heatsink. Hotspot equalization and better heat distribution are not witchcraft, but cost extra.
In the stress test, the temperatures in the voltage regulators continue to rise, but what we just wrote also applies here. The cooling is still completely sufficient at this point. The GPU temperature drops slightly, just like the left part of the PCB gets cooler, because the fans now also spin higher and the airflow is noticeably more positive.
