Why I took a closer look at the Doogee S89 Pro today and let you participate in the self-experiment (of my kids)? Because, as the father of two young boys, I see myself once again confirmed in the fact that it is rather counterproductive to pass on the discarded parental smartphones to the squirts. Rugged smartphones are certainly a niche, and yet they exist as if China had just opened its floodgates. I would even dare to say that the everyday life of two bright boys far surpasses outdoor conditions in terms of stability and durability.
The size and weight of such bolides also has two advantages: first, these monsters do not overlook even a distracted child, and it has something very solid to grasp and thus trains the motor skills and hand muscles at the same time (no joke). After I had already donated a Hotwav Cyber 7 to my big boy, because the high school and a longer way to school will be starting in the fall, the (only slightly) younger one must not stand aside, of course. Otherwise there will be a fight. And why not an Ulefone or Oukitel? If Android, then please from version 12 and as unmodified as possible, of course without a redesigned UI.
I chose the Hotwav Cyber 7 a few months ago because it is even somewhat suitable for gaming. However, together with the indispensable Android child-restraint, this is all quite manageable in terms of time management. Only the runtime of not even two days during regular use was not that great and much shorter than promised. The second phone should therefore have the biggest possible battery, run longer, and be at least somewhat suitable for gaming. However, since the younger one rather watches YouTube and Netflix and the phone is also supposed to serve as a hotspot on the go (we all have Unlimited in the certain Magenta network as a family), I did not buy a second Hotwav (left) anymore, but gave the Doogee S89 Pro (right) a chance.
This is exactly where the Doogee S89 Pro comes into play. If I’m to be completely nasty, it’s a stylish and splash-proof powerbank with a unique 65-watt fast-charging function and the welcome option for making calls, watching movies, as well as the occasional game. Doogee does not officially launch the device until next week, but with a promo code and some healthy risk (well aware of the import sales tax), the device was already available for less than 300 Euros – with a clear conscience. Known where.
I think you will be able to buy it from Amazon or Banggood at the end of August without any hassle, although the prices might be significantly higher at the beginning. But patience rewards the thrifty person of the world and in the end it should probably come out to around 300 to 320 Euros. This is exactly the brand I will use for the test and comparison, because the Hotwav Cyber 7 was much more expensive, but unfortunately it also has various drawbacks like a flatter display and a much shorter battery life besides the better overall performance. As always, I do not make affiliate links for reasons, so you are welcome to google yourself. It’s really simple.
Technical data and details
Of course, I don’t want to conceal this part, because it then also explains the benchmark results. The installed 12 nm SoC (MediaTek Helio P90 MT6779) without 5G is of course no racehorse anymore even from today’s perspective, but it does it with a nice composure and without really being annoying. Nevertheless, it is quite frugal, so we achieved a runtime of 5 days with mixed use (phone, YouTube, browser and beach buggy racing) with the help of the 12000 mAh battery. After another half a day, it went from 9% to 100% within 2 hours and 25 minutes. Purpose fulfilled, thanks for that!

I am anything but a smartphone or gadget tester, but if I am interested in such a part, then I will of course report about it. It’s all in one go, and I’m very communicative anyway. That’s why there’s also the obligatory unboxing on the next page (you have to do it that way) and the reasons why such a brick of a smartphone is even a perfect physical child lock every now and then. So dear parents, please read carefully! 😀
