Why I had expressed concerns on the previous page will probably become clear quickly in the following.
GPU part 1
The faithful GTX 1060, with which you can still enjoy many games in FullHD almost 7 years after release, had a bad hit.
One may not actually look at all.
We definitely have to pull out all the stops here, so we disassemble the little one into all its individual parts.
A replacement of the thermal paste would be appropriate anyway, right? 😉
Corrosion had already formed in places on the back.
When I saw the stains on the back including the discoloration on the PCIE contacts, I had finally given up hope.
The dusty cooling system was probably the smallest problem:
At this point I interrupt the section graphics card briefly and show first the initial state of the motherboard, because in my head grew a thought..
Mainboard part 1
It looked even worse on the motherboard – the deadly liquid got into the smallest cracks. BIOS battery and USB ports? – Contaminated!
RAM slots and S-ATA ports? – Contaminated!
Heat sink and surrounding chips/chips to be cooled? – Contaminated!
But one still goes.. deep into the PCI Express slot.
How on earth was I supposed to get all that snot out of all those little cracks and recesses? Should I really resort to the most devious and dopey of solutions? The “Der8auer Method”? Oh, what did I have to lose? Down with the heat sinks!
Disclaimer: Don’t try this at home! The images shown below are NOT intended to inspire imitation. Please DO NOT copy unless you are completely sure of what you are doing!
And off to the dishwasher with all the stuff!
