Test run, component exchange, testing
There was no explosion or any noise when the power supply was turned on. I took the illuminating light as a good sign.
Success! Or is it? I had actually received a picture again after the whole action, but unfortunately nothing had changed in the catchy error picture. As before, 9 out of 10 boot processes ended in an endless POST screen or a crash right after booting. Crap!
I then tested the graphics card in another system, where it was allowed to sweat in Furmark for several hours. No abnormalities, no crashes – the little one actually seems to have taken both showers and the grinding of the contacts well!
Since RAM, SSD and CPU had also survived the usual tests in this system without any problems, it could only be the board itself. So after consultation with the owner, a replacement part was procured. I bought a B450 Prime motherboard with remaining warranty for 51€ in the electronic bay – an investment that would still be worthwhile for the system in question in my opinion.
During the first boot, which ran right away without any problems or crashes, it was actually immediately clear that this should have been the solution.
Thus, the whole can was able to move back into the freshly cleaned housing. By the way, the fan of the previously installed Thermalright cooler did not make it. I almost suspect that the blown part on the old board may have been the fan controller and it took the CPU fan with it when it died.
Minimal effort in cable management should probably be sufficient.
The graphics card also back in place.
Finally, there were a few hours of CPU Burner and Furmark to test whether the system causes any problems under prolonged full load. Fortunately, this was not the case.
