Cleaning
Once I had all the components removed and on the table, I could start disassembling them. The following paragraphs are meant to substantiate why I briefly had doubts as to whether anything could be salvaged here at all and whether the whole effort was worthwhile at all.
The power supply
The good news first: The PSU didn’t get any liquid in the protection of the PSU surround and miraculously nothing leaked directly into the EPS and 24-pin connectors.
However, I could not possibly leave it so dusty, of course!
Would certainly only have been a matter of time before the masses of dust produced an unpleasant odor during operation, or even killed the power supply.
Exactly 8 minutes later, this could be seen again, right? How I did it so quickly? A soft brush and a spirited blow-out with an “air-duster” were sufficient here.
The hard disk
Cleaning the hard drive, which only had a small spot on the case, was even easier.
My remedy of choice for virtually all surfaces in and around the house: glass cleaner and a soft cloth.
The housing
The same agent, but with disposable wipes, was used on the housing itself. What a punishing job to rid all the beads and folds of the sticky crust!
One hectolitre of glass cleaner and 728 Zewa cloths later, the Sharkoon case was halfway presentable again.
No comparison to before!
