Temperature behavior
The well-known power-hungry system (Ryzen 9 3900X RTX 3070 Ti) was again used to determine the temperature behavior. The standard case fans were used, and a BeQuiet! Pure Loop 2 FX 280mm AIO was used to cool the CPU.
General conditions
- Room temperature: 21.0°C
- Case fans fixed: 800 rpm
- AIO fans fixed: 800 rpm
- AIO pump fixed: 3000 rpm
CPU Torture
Cinebench R23 was again used in the loop for the CPU Torture test. After a short warm-up phase, the temperature of the AIO’s coolant stabilized and the measurement could begin. The CPU temperature curve remained very constant in the Dark Base 701 using the Pure Loop 2 FX 280. With an average temperature of approx. 78°C, the CPU was able to utilize the full power limit of 145W over the entire test period and maintain a clock rate of 4100 MHz on all 12 cores.
Gaming
The Dark Base 701 also kept a cool head in the gaming test. Once again, Borderlands 3 was used, which kept the CPU moderately busy and continuously pushed the graphics card to its power limit – a typical gaming workload. While the graphics card ran straight to its temperature target at ~72°C as usual and stayed there, the clock rate remained nailed down at 1905MHz. The hotspot was also in the green zone with an average of 85°C.
The temperature of the CPU was also surprisingly low in this test. Although the AIO was configured as an exhaust and therefore had to dissipate practically all of the waste heat from all components, including the hot-headed 3070 Ti, the temperatures were in the region of just 54°C.
Interim conclusion
The spacious Dark Base 701 doesn’t show any weakness when it comes to temperatures. The Silent Wings 4 rotate pleasantly quietly up to approx. 800 rpm and provide a noticeable airflow in the case. Thanks to the two 140mm exhausts fitted as standard, there is no need to worry about heat build-up in the case. Acoustically, neither vibrations nor rattling can be heard, BeQuiet! definitely has that under control. The AIO was also pleasantly quiet in the Dark Base 701, I remembered the pump being louder.
Overall, there are no complaints to be made here, apart from the fact that 420mm radiators cannot be installed. Whether the distance between the side panel and the graphics card (when mounted vertically) is sufficient for efficient ventilation depends primarily on the height of the cooler. Up to 2.5 slots it should be just fine, otherwise I would rather install the graphics card in a regular way.
