AMD Radeon Pro WX 8200 review – Benchmarks and exclusive hardware details

With the Radeon Pro WX 8200, AMD is pushing a new workstation graphics card with Vega56, which is located below the Radeon Pro WX 9100 and Frontier Edition (both Vega64). But I not only set the map, but also disassembled it and measured a lot in the lab. With very interesting insights!

The fan stop shines through absence, but AMD's fan control is back in the style of an unpredictable fuzzy logic on board. Let's just look at the fan curves:

Even during the stress test, the fat is turned out in bold, in order to slowly and gently approach the temperature limit of 80°C and balance the fan again. But you don't have to understand this.

Let's look at the measured values again as a tabular listing:

KFA2 RTX 2070 EX
Fan speeds Open Benchtable Maximum 1996 Rpm (Peak)
Fan speeds Open Benchtable Average 1865 rpm (warmed up)
Fan Speeds Closed Case Maximum 2004 Rpm ( Peak)
Fan Speeds Closed Case Average 1899 rpm (warmed up)
Noise Emission (Air) Average 41.7 dB(A), Closed Case (Peak)
Noise Emission (Air) Idle 33.2 dB(A)
Sound characteristic / hearing impression clearly noisy, engine noise
Coil-feathers/electric noises low, only for very high FPS numbers and for load changes

Sound Spectrum

The measured 41.7 dB(A) are based on the measured approx. 1900 rpm in closed housing. We have applied the same 3D load to the open structure in the measuring room, but the fans are set to approx. fixed at 1900 rpm in order to be able to adjust this value exactly.

The sound backdrop is present and you can also perceive and measure medium-frequency motor noises for heavy noise (see peak in the middle on the spectral analysis above). The noise comes from the turbulence of the radial fan and is defined by a rather uniform noise of the fan.
