Summary and conclusion
The cooler tested today is now the third in this test series, with the chances of more models looking rather poor at the moment. I have inquired Aqua Computer and if the cooler is ready I will get it for a test as well. Many others either don’t even offer a cooler for the Founders Edition or have shown little enthusiasm to support independend tests. You can see and interpret that as you like, but I can’t change it for now. It will have its reasons. If any of the readers own a different cooler and want to provide it to a review in advance, we’re happy to do so. PN or mail will do.
But back to today’s test. If you take the possible measurement tolerances into account, the water blocks from Alphacool and Corsair perform similarly well. This is surprising, since there is a price difference of 100 Euros between the two products. The design is certainly still a criterion, but Alphacool has done its homework there as well and has abandoned the edge design and is once again focusing on more timeless shapes. This also applies to the implementation inside, where the classic way via a jetplate is used again.
The pads are good and with 1 mm also not too thick. Qualitatively, this is close to Corsair and miles ahead of EK. The only criticism is the irritating brown marked bag with the two pads, which no one needs and which are also still listed in the manual. Just leave it out and the earth will start spinning faster again. But that’s still better than missing something. And seriously, I didn’t find a catch in the entire test. So in the end, there are two coolers in first place, and if you add the price, there’s really only one left.
The Alphacool Eisblock Aurora Acryl GPX-N RTX 4090 FE therefore gets, as unusual as it may be, even two awards this time. The unbeaten price/performance winner anyway, because a difference of up to 100 Euros is already half a universe. And there is an explicit buy tip because the cooler has an excellent surface quality, the chrome plating leaves a very good impression and the overall performance is on par with the Corsair cooler. And what have we learned from this now? Money alone does not score goals (EKWB), but sometimes it does (Corsair) and less money is just as good (Alphacool). And now? In the end, it’s up to the customer and his or her common sense to decide. You wouldn’t have to ask me for long…
