Stereo mode
To connect two of these speakers, I had to turn on both speakers first and press the power button twice in a row on one of the two speakers. The successful connection will be announced with a "Speakers Paired". Once this is complete, the speaker can be connected to the laptop or smartphone via Bluetooth as usual. Stereo mode is very handy, whether you want to sonicate two rooms at the same time or just listen to the music or videos in stereo. However, there is a small problem with the latter.
This is because the speakers have a perceptible latency in stereo mode, which is significantly higher than if only a 1More Bluetooth speaker is used. This is because the speakers have to synchronize their playback, which actually works well, but just creates a delay in playback. With only one speaker, the delay is hardly noticeable and did not bother me when watching videos. In stereo mode, on the other hand, the heavy delay at least when watching videos or movies bothered me a little.
Sound
The 1More Bluetooth speaker is equipped with an 85mm woofer and a 27mm tweeter, which should give it an advantage over similar speakers equipped with only one driver. Here, both drivers are oriented upwards, so that the room around the loudspeaker is well sonicated in all directions. When the speaker is operated under one roof, a single loudspeaker is sufficient to fill a very large room with sound. Outside, I realized that the effect is a bit lost. Although the loudspeaker is still good to hear here, the sound is no longer so "big".
The mids and highs are both surprisingly good, I recognize details, voices are clear and instruments sound natural. Especially with the room-filling effect that the 1More Blutooth Speaker offers, I was immediately convinced of this. Of course, the sound quality cannot be compared to that of good headphones or a good set of loudspeakers, but for such a compact soundbox, the result is surprising. Especially the depths, or even bass. This sounds very full and extends much deeper than most competitors in the price segment I've heard so far. Which is probably due to the large woofer that was installed here. However, it is a bit oversteered for my taste, especially if you are within a radius of 2 meters, the bass is noticeably louder than the rest of the sound. However, most users of such a Bluetooth box should not bother a little extra low-end.
In addition, this speaker can be very, VERY(!) loud. Unfortunately, I was able to start from approx. 60% volume to perceive a slight distortion in the sound. However, this did not bother me much in everyday use, as I used only 25% of the maximum volume when used normally at home. The fact that I never used the speaker at particularly high volumes probably contributed to the long battery life. I think that the last 40% volume is just a kind of bonus, if you want to play the DJ at a party, for example. I never operated the speaker over the 60% mentioned – not because of the distortion, but because it is simply not necessary – it is also so loud enough. Therefore, the distortion in the upper end does not bother me very much. But I do not want to mention that either.
At this point, however, it has to be said that because of this high maximum volume, the steps further down are still relatively large. I tried several times to make the loudspeaker louder only to put it down a level immediately, because the jump was too big. A finer vote would have been desirable here.
Unfortunately, I also found that both of the copies sent to me give an audible noise when they are not active. The noise is nitable that it would be really disturbing. It can only be heard up close and if you don't play music.
Conclusion
The 1More Portable Bluetooth Speaker is a beautiful, well-processed Bluetooth speaker with many features. He's not perfect, but he's very close – especially for his price. The sound is good, albeit very bass-heavy and it can sound an entire party if necessary. The quiet noise and distortion at high volume do not bother me personally, because they are not noticeable during regular use. Both are therefore only a problem under special conditions of use.
The many features, such as stereo mode, splash protection and the extremely long battery life are the decisive points for me. And little things like the possibility of charging via USB-C are for me the cherry on the icing. All in all, I can recommend this speaker to those who are looking for a (or two) inexpensive Portable Bluetooth speaker.
