Grayscale, color fidelity, saturation and gamut to factory settings
Besides the main purpose of the Corsair Flex – gaming – some of you might be interested in whether it can also be used for image, video or other processing. Let’s take a look or measure.
Color space coverage
Typical for LG, it is only enough for about 90 percent Adobe RGB and thus only for 71 percent Rec. 2020. This is not a big deal, but it does limit the usability or flexibility somewhat.
Gray Scale, Saturation, ColorChecker @ Default Setting
Since a white point of 8500K has been chosen in the default mode, the following result cannot be particularly good. Since I check each monitor default in SDR with respect to sRGB. Thus, the white point should correspond to the D65 and follow the gamma curve 2.2.
Expectation fulfilled! Now is that bad for a gaming-focused monitor? Yes! According to the attached protocol, the monitor was calibrated to Gamma 2.2 at a white point of 8500K and since the monitor does not limit the color space to sRGB, I am now measuring the whole thing in the P3 color space with the white point standard (D65) and the default white point 8500K.
Gray Scale, Saturation, ColorChecker DCI-P3 @ D65
Gray Scale, Saturation, ColorChecker DCI-P3 @ 8500K
In both cases, the “bad” gamma tracking prevents a much better result. However, this can be improved via a firmware update. I was able to use the advertised DeltaE avg. 0.71 not measure. Probably this is due to my measuring technique. But it can be stated with certainty that the monitor is not completely “off the grid”.
Gamut, Gray Scale, Saturation, ColorChecker @ sRGB Mode
The Xeneon Flex’s sRGB mode is really okay for the daily use of standard apps like MS Office or surfing the web and watching YouTube.
The avg. settings advertised by Corsair are not very good. DeltaE < 2 is maintained. Sufficient for a gaming monitor. For some readers here, the measurement results will make their hair stand on end. How can he approve of that? Because it’s not an Eizo monitor with which you can do color-critical work and not notice any difference to a 35,000 euro reference monitor. Please always take the intended use into consideration!
