Summary
The gaming and application performance are right, the GeForce RTX 3080 laptop GPU installed here is sovereign and above all efficient, despite the high TDP. Because in the end you also get an above average number of frames and pixels per second delivered. The CPU, on the other hand, is almost oversized, a Core i5 -11600K would certainly do the trick. The difference between the Core i9-11900K and the Core i7-11700K is negligible, so that you should also go for the supposedly smaller CPU for the same results.
In case anyone is waiting for a comparison of the performance modes in gaming: I have compared three representative games here as well, but not all of them, as it would completely go beyond the time frame. Between 8 and 10 percentage points will have to be taken into account as a maximum loss of the overall performance in the average FPS, sometimes even less. The 1% low FPS (percentile) looks similarly good, but the drop here is only marginal in direct comparison. Those who can live with it will not be punished by the eye, but rewarded by the ear.
The quality of workmanship and the handling I had already assessed in detail in the first part, so I don’t want to repeat myself. Fact is: the part fits, even if weight and price almost remind of a real desktop PC. As a beacon project, the Schenker XMG Ultra 17 has mastered the baptism of fire in the lab quite well, even after all these benchmarks. I’ll just put that as a final remark at the end and pack everything away again neatly. It was fun!
Part 1 of 2: Schenker XMG Ultra 17 in the test: Lightweight, really fast and still flexible
The barebone was provided to igorsLAB by XMG for testing on loan and without any conditions. There was no possible influence of the manufacturer on the test and the results, nor was there any obligation to publish them.
