Roccat Burst Pro Review – Smooth gliding lightweight

Sensor & Software

For the heart of each mouse, Roccat uses a customized version of the PixArt PMW3389DM-T3QU, which despite being 2 years old is still one of the top sensors for wired mice. Here are the technical details at a glance:

Some more information can be found on the manufacturer’s page of PixArt.

Reliability of the mouse is so far absolutely satisfactory, dropouts or asynchronous movement of mouse and pointer I had at no time. There is no noticeable latency either, the polling rate is set to 1000Hz by default. Together with the Roccat Swarm software, the parameters can still be adjusted a bit according to taste as well as calibrated to the base. For example, the “Distance Control Unit” can be used to set the height at which the mouse stops transmitting signals. Very practical, as this reduces the “shaking” of the mouse to a minimum when lifting it up.

Also built in is a DPI calibration with a small “Aim Test”, which first makes rough and then increasingly finer suggestions. Up to five profiles can be stored on the mouse and switched through with the DPI button.

The various setting options in the program should leave little to be desired:

Swarm is installed in modules so that drivers and libraries are downloaded only for connected devices. Accordingly, it only occupies a slim 156 Mbytes on the hard disk (including the module for the keyboard) and doesn’t make itself obtrusive in the task manager either:

One or the other manufacturer’s software could definitely use a cleansing cure in order not to end up in the bloatware category. Roccat seems to have this process behind them, commendable!
